On Sunday April 2nd, over 200 people attended a fascinating symposium at The Temple-Tifereth Israel in Beachwood, combining art, creativity, Jewish genetics and Parkinson’s.

Organized and hosted by InMotion co-founder and Michael J. Fox Foundation Patient Advisory Council member Dr. Karen Jaffe, the symposium brought together people from several different worlds to inform and inspire.

On Feb. 28, 2017, InMotion founder Karen Jaffe and I (her husband Marc) spent the day on Capitol Hill along with 200 other advocates, meeting with Representatives and Senators to express the concerns of the Parkinson’s community.

This was the first year that the Michael J. Fox Foundation had organized this day, having recently combined with The Parkinson’s Action Network. They prepared us well, with an all-day seminar so we knew what issues to bring up and how best to get the Congress men and women and their staffers to care. ...

Care Partner Versus Don’t Care Partner

My wife has Parkinson’s. I’m her “care partner.” Or sometimes, I’m her “don’t care partner.” It all depends on whether she wants me to care about how she feels or not.
It’s not always easy to know which she wants me to be.

For example: If I notice her gait isn’t right when we’re out for a walk, I’ll know to cut it short. ...
