Imagine Being Able to Transform the Future
You can inspire and transform the lives of those you touch. We could not carry out our important work without you! No gift is too big or small as we continue our mission to offer free services to the InMotion community.
There are many ways to give!
Much like we believe in a personalized approach to services for our clients, a range of charitable giving options are available when you give to InMotion, and they can be tailored to meet your needs. The most successful gift structure is one that meets your personal, family and charitable goals, and is flexible enough to meet your own changing needs.
Current-use gifts provide funds and flexibility over the short term, and can be put to use right away. This can be a one-time contribution or ongoing donation.
You can make an outright gift by transferring any of the following assets directly to InMotion. With each gift, you will receive an acknowledgment letter detailing the asset given and the amount of your charitable income tax deduction, which you should keep for tax purposes.
- Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds
- Real Estate
- Tangible Personal Property (art, jewelry)
- Life Insurance
- Retirement Plan Assets and/or IRAs
- Business and/or Partnership Interests
Some donors prefer spreading out a gift over a period of years. These recurring gifts, which can be paid annually or scheduled according to your needs, help us fulfill our mission. For example, a $15,000 pledge could be paid in increments of $5,000 a year for a period of three years. We will work with you to create a schedule that best suits your needs.
You might arrange for a gift to be made through your fund held at another institution, like Fidelity or Schwab, or through your donor advised or philanthropic fund held at a community foundation or Jewish federation.
Does your employer match your donations to organizations like ours? Double your impact by using your employer’s donation matching program.
Since we opened our doors, all of the programs and services have been provided free of charge to our clients. Although what we offer is free, there is a cost. When you join our “Circle of Friends” program you will join a special group of people reaching out each month to help us provide services to our clients. Please see a staff member for more information.
A deferred gift is a gift that happens at a date in the future, selected by you. We are available to assist you and your advisor in planning your gift and can provide sample documents, forms and illustrations. However at this time, InMotion cannot serve as a trustee for deferred or life income gifts.
A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a simple agreement in which we promise to pay you, or you and your spouse, a lifetime income in exchange for a gift. The payment is fixed at the time you establish the gift and can be paid to you in monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual payments.
There are several types of gift annuities. They can be:
- Deferred (the longer the payment is deferred, the higher the payment will be);
- Commuted (which is deferred for at least one year, and then the payments are condensed into a specified timeframe, such as for a child’s education);
- Flexible-deferred (the payments are deferred for at least one year and then can be “turned on” at some point
A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is generally used when there are multiple beneficiaries. In exchange for a gift, a CRT can provide income to you, you and your spouse, or you, your spouse and your children for life or for a term of years. The payment can be fixed (annuity trust) or variable, based on the year-end market value of the trust (unitrust).
Do you wish to make a gift but retain title to the property in your family? A charitable lead trust (CLT) may appeal to you. You can establish a lead trust that provides income to InMotion over a set period of years. At the end of the trust term, the assets either are returned to you or distributed among family members. One key advantage of this type of gift is that it can significantly reduce or even eliminate gift and/or estate taxes.
This is a gift plan that allows you to donate a home to InMotion while retaining the right to live in it for the rest of your life. A gift to InMotion of the remainder interest in a personal residence provides you with a current charitable deduction and may reduce or eliminate capital gains tax on the property’s appreciation. You retain the right to live in the home, but continue to be responsible for all routine expenses – maintenance fees, insurance, property taxes, repairs, etc.
Testamentary gifts are those given to a charity at a donor's death. This is a popular form of gift giving because donors are able to maintain control over assets during their lifetimes, providing the peace of mind of knowing that the asset is always available if needed.
After you have provided for your family and loved ones, a bequest in your will would enable you to make a gift in support of InMotion’s programs and services.
You can make a gift to InMotion of your paid-up life insurance policy or buy a new policy and name InMotion as the owner and beneficiary. With a gift of a paid-up life insurance policy, you can deduct the cash value of the policy at the time of the gift. With the purchase of a new policy, you would establish the policy and then transfer ownership to InMotion. If there are premium payments that remain to be paid, you could make annual gifts to InMotion to help cover the cost of the premium, which also would be tax-deductible to you.
As with a life insurance gift, naming InMotion as a beneficiary can offer you significant value. Due to applicable estate and income taxes, family members usually only receive 25% to 30% of the value of an IRA or retirement plan. Much of this tax can be avoided if the assets are instead used to fund a bequest to InMotion.
InMotion is extremely grateful for the generosity of its benefactors. To show our appreciation, we welcome the opportunity to recognize your contribution or, if you wish, preserve your anonymity.
